I teach at Parsons School of Design and I’m the MakerLAB Design and Tech Lead at Cornell Tech.

ZnF Ring

In molecular biology , there is a functional segment of a protein called the RING finger domain. RING is an acronym for “Really Interesting New Gene“. These protein domains bind to DNA. 

I found a similar protein domain, called a ZINC FINGER DOMAIN (ZnF) and then I proceeded to download the protein sequence from the online Protein Data Bank (below). I re-modeled the functional segment in VR with Gravity Sketch (bottom right) to craft a silver ring from the structure.
